Louis Soonius (1883-1956)
Lodewijk Soonius, better known as Louis, was a painter and draftsman who is considered to be part of the The Hague school of painters. He is known for his beach scenes with playing children and bathers, but he also painted cityscapes. He worked in and around The Hague and could often be found on the boulevard of Scheveningen and Katwijk. An important source of income was the making of portraits. A number of his studies and portraits can be seen here, including a self-portrait of Louis Soonius.
